Hailed as a national treasure by Opera News, Anthony Davis has created a legacy of operas that have broken through a centuries-old color barrier to place stories from the history of African-Americans centerstage, including his X: The Life and Times of Malcolm XAmistad, and his newest work, The Central Park Five.


Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Anthony Davis has deep roots in Hampton Roads, and this heralded artist comes home for an intimate afternoon of music from his critically acclaimed operas in this concert performed by longtime collaborator/pianist Alan Johnson, with singers Christine Jobson and Carl DuPont. Hailed as a national treasure by Opera News, Davis has created a legacy of operas that have broken through a centuries-old color barrier to place stories from the history of African-Americans centerstage, including his X: The Life and Times of Malcolm XAmistad, and his newest work, The Central Park Five.  Beyond the opera stage, Davis has composed for orchestra, chamber ensemble, and chorus, as well as Broadway.
